NMF presents a complete range of recycled products with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel 3.2.

Nordisk Microfiber meets the new, stricter environmental criteria of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, achieving re-certification for our Swan-labeled products.

At NMF, it is natural for us to lead the way in the green transition and to commit ourselves to developing more sustainable products and concepts for the cleaning industry. That’s why we also participated in the consultation process during the development of the criteria for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel 3.2.

These new criteria have been in development for four years, and we are now re-certified until 2028. To obtain certification, we underwent a comprehensive process to meet the new, stricter requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which set new standards and limits for textile fibers, chemicals, quality, and production management. This means that when you choose to buy a Swan-labeled 3.2 product, you are assured it is produced under stringent, documented environmental and working conditions that are continuously improved and locally monitored by SMETA.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel has updated 54 new or extended requirements that must be met to achieve re-certification under this ambitious environmental label. One of the significant changes in the Nordic Swan 3.2 is the stricter requirements for textile fibers, particularly the share of recycled materials in the fibers:

To obtain certification, at least 25% of the total product, not just the cleaning part, must be based on documented recycled materials in accordance with the Global Recycled Standard. This ensures that materials come from recycled sources, collected or sorted for use in products, and verified by a third party. The cotton used in the products must be free from genetically modified organisms (GMO) and meet stricter criteria than before. It must be either organic, recycled, certified by BCI (Better Cotton Initiative), or Fairtrade cotton.

NMF’s products achieve top scores with an A-rating in the fiber fragment test, meeting the new criteria of the Nordic Swan 3.2.

Our Swan-labeled products achieve an A-rating for the lowest release of fiber fragments during washing, as documented by tests conducted by Weber and Leucht, recognized for their MLC index. The test results show:

Durability: Our products are certified to maintain high efficiency and quality even after more than 300 washes in professional cleaning. This requirement was added to tighten the standards for hygiene post-cleaning, where no microorganisms should be left behind. A key factor for increased durability is the low release of fiber fragments – the fewer the fragments, the less wear and tear, resulting in a longer product lifespan.

Eco-friendly: NMF’s Swan-labeled products achieve an A-rating with scores between 0-600, meeting the requirements for re-certification according to Ecolabelling Denmark. The minimal release of fiber fragments not only extends the product’s lifespan but also reduces environmental impact, a critical aspect of our sustainable approach and commitment to long-term durability and quality.

Another significant change in the Nordic Swan 3.2 is the stricter requirements for chemicals in textiles. The Nordic Swan is one of the world’s strictest and most ambitious environmental certifications, and it has always set tough criteria that products must meet before certification – these criteria have now become even more rigorous.

  • The chemical limits in textile production have been significantly reduced, with a stronger focus on the production process to further protect the local environment.
  • In efforts to avoid harmful chemical discharge from dyeing processes, the use of substances such as organic fluorine compounds and heavy metals has been banned. These stricter raw material requirements help safeguard nature, animals, and people.
